Kansas fans have their own version of the wave, and it’s a nod to the state’s agricultural heritage. At key moments in a football or basketball game, students slowly wave their arms overhead, imitating a Kansas wheat field swaying in the wind. The school’s famous rock chalk chant dates back to 1886 and, according to the school, originated from a cheer created by a chemistry professor for the science club.
