Three Kansas congressmen shot dead, suspected deaths after gunfire

Three Kansas lawmakers were shot dead during a shootout Friday and a female suspect is dead, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around US Highway 77 and 122nd Street just outside of Wichita. Deputies first responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle when gunfire was exchanged, Cowley County Sheriff Dave Falletti told reporters at the scene, according to video footage obtained by KNS News.

“We simply do not know at this point the events leading up to this (the shooting) other than that the vehicle was deemed suspicious,” he said. “The deputies followed this lead and then this happened.”

The injured deputies are in stable condition and have been taken to a hospital in Wichita, he said. Falletti said a woman was the only person in the car.

Agents from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, its Crime Scene Response Team and other agencies responded at the scene, a KBI spokesman told Fox News.
