NEEDS: It would be easier to write down what this terrible team doesn’t need. That roster is riddled with holes, having sacked or traded nearly all of its stars and veterans over the past three seasons as Houston relegated from the top of the AFC South to one of the worst teams in the league. The Texans will seek to trade quarterback Deshaun Watson after he was out all of last season after requesting a trade and amid lawsuits from 22 women alleging sexual assault or molestation. They have quarterback Davis Mills, who started 11 games as a rookie last season but could be looking to improve the free agency position. If they decide to stay with Mills as a starter for 2022, they will need to add a backup as they are not expected to re-sign Tyrod Taylor. The Texans could use another receiver to play Brandin Cooks and could be looking for a runback after finishing last in rushing yards for the second straight season. On defense, they need to add players to the secondary with their best security, Reid, in order to become a free agent. They could also use defensive end and outside linebacker reinforcements after ranking in sacks at the bottom of the league. Lovie Smith takes over as head coach after serving as defensive coordinator last season.
