About the islanders: Like the Blues, the Islanders will play the second game of a back-to-back game. The only difference — the New Yorkers are on their way after playing in Carolina on Friday while the Blues were at home in St. Louis. It’s their first game at Enterprise in more than two years — a Blues 3-2 win in overtime on Feb. 27, 2020. Two weeks later, the NHL suspended its season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In the earlier encounter between the teams this season, the Blues lost 1-2 on Long Island on March 5, the start of a March malaise that started the month 3-6-3. The Blues looked dazed as usual, with a late morning start as they fell to 2-3-2 in morning/afternoon games for the season.
Beginning with that win over the Blues, the Islanders went into Friday’s games 12-5-1, down to the Blues’ 8-5-4. The template remains the same for the Islands: top 10 defense and penalty shootouts, but not much attack.
