One person was shot and injured on a soccer field in front of rapper DaBaby’s home in North Carolina, authorities said Thursday. Another person who called 911 told police the victim was reportedly an intruder.
DaBaby, real name Jonathan Kirk, was in the house with at least one other person at the time, Troutman Police Chief Josh Watson told The Associated Press. The chief, citing ongoing investigations, would not clarify who was shot or who carried out the shooting. He said the injured person’s injuries were not life-threatening.
According to a 911 call tone provided to WSOC-TV, an unidentified person told police, “I shot him in the leg.”
“Okay. And why did you do that?” asked the dispatcher.
“He’s trespassing on my property,” the man told the dispatcher, according to WSOC-TV. “I don’t know what he’s here for. What to take here. What to do here. He’s neutralized until you get here.”
Troutman is located in Iredell County, 35 miles north of Charlotte.
Kirk has a history of gunfights. In 2010, he pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon after fatally shooting at a Walmart in Huntersville, North Carolina south of Troutman. He was not charged in the shooting.
